Primary responsibilities of the Director of Sales & Marketing include: leading all sales & marketing efforts of our new hotel; prospecting and generating new business; developing and administering a marketing plan to achieve the highest possible occupancy and revenues; and promoting our hotel to conferences, weddings and other groups.
Located at 120 South Aurora Street on the Downtown Ithaca Commons, our new 159-room full service hotel features 2,300 sq feet of meeting space, as well as an indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar. Job Description: Responsible for overall account management, business generation, and sales prospecting for the hotel. Staff, manage and develop the hotel sales staff. Develop and administer marketing plan to achieve the highest possible occupancy rate and average daily rate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
SALES MANAGEMENT
• Prepare annual revenue budget and annual marketing plan.
• Direct the sales efforts of the hotel as outlined in the marketing plan.
• Develop and manage sales budget.
• Assign market segments and key accounts to department personnel.
• Generate top-line revenue to meet or exceed budget goals.
• Cultivate and source leads through cold calls, telemarketing, direct sales, sales blitzes, National Sales Office, networking, and other sources.
• Maintain rapport with competitor hotels, lead sources, clients, the City Convention and Visitors Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, and the local community.
• Manage sales department.
• Direct the Sales Managers on rate and service decisions.
• Attend community relations meetings.
• Distribute leads to other hotels in Urgo portfolio.
• Qualify in-house guests.
• Establish and maintain close contact with Top and Target accounts through phone calls, tours, appointments, correspondence and entertainment. Assess future and current needs of the guest.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
• Desire and ability to perform direct outside sales.
• Excellent verbal and written skills.
• Able to use advanced computer systems (client tracking, inventory control, forecasting tools).
• Direct sales experience.
• Goal-oriented and creative personality.
• Excellent guest relation skills.
• Hire, train, counsel, and motivate department personnel. Conduct employee performance appraisals. Responsible for PAF and payroll administration.
• Lead weekly sales meetings. Assign and follow up on accounts with sales staff.
• Create and produce quarterly sales plans.
• Assist General Manager in resolving guest complaints concerning the sales department.
• Review period end reports.
• Know the hotel emergency policy and proper administration of issued keys.
• Attend sales meetings, training and other meetings requested by the General Manager and Regional Manager.
ADMINISTRATIVE
• Hire, train, counsel, and motivate department personnel. Conduct employee performance appraisals. Responsible for PAF and payroll administration.
• Lead weekly sales meetings. Assign and follow up on accounts with sales staff.
• Create and produce quarterly sales plans.
• Assist General Manager in resolving guest complaints concerning the sales department.
• Review period end reports.
• Know the hotel emergency policy and proper administration of issued keys.

FINANCIAL
• Assist GM and/or Revenue Manager in developing and communicating selling strategies, utilizing hotel inventory control and forecasting tools.
• Develop and manage sales budget.
• Create and nurture a hotel environment that emphasizes motivation, empowerment, teamwork and a passion for providing service.
• Be readily available & approachable for all team members.
• Assist supervisors in understanding team members ever changing needs and expectations, and exceed them.
• Take proactive approaches when dealing with associate concerns.
• Extend professionalism and courtesy to team members at all times.
• Celebrate and foster decisions that result in successes as well as failures.
ASSOCIATE RELATIONS
• Create and nurture a hotel environment that emphasizes motivation, empowerment, teamwork and a passion for providing service.
• Be readily available & approachable for all team members.
• Assist supervisors in understanding team members ever changing needs and expectations, and exceed them.
• Take proactive approaches when dealing with associate concerns.
• Extend professionalism and courtesy to team members at all times.
• Celebrate and foster decisions that result in successes as well as failures.

GUEST RELATIONS
• Be readily available/ approachable for all guests.
• Take proactive approaches when dealing with guest concerns. Follow property specific second effort and recovery plan.
• Ensure staffing levels allow team members to exceed guest needs.
• Extend professionalism and courtesy to guests at all times.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions, determined by the GM:
• The hotel operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Schedules must accommodate fluctuating business demands and associates may be asked to work shifts other than those they prefer or normally work.
• Carry out all reasonable requests by leadership team.
• Comply with department uniform and appearance standards.
• Participate in Manager on Duty coverage program requiring weekend stay-over.
